We have been working on recent storm damage in the Lawrenceville area this month. I wanted to put this quick post together as Lawrenceville is one of my favorite cities in the Atlanta area..
Dealing with damage from storms, wind, or hail can be challenging, so here are some tips to help you manage the aftermath.

First, make sure you and anyone entering the home is safe. Don't go into a house with a tree on the roof; it's not worth it. Don't touch any exposed electrical lines, even if you turn off the power. Be safe!
Second, if the home is safe, you will want to get a roofing or restoration crew out immediately to inspect the home for damages. It's always a good idea to have the home inspected by professionals. Roofers, mold, water, and general storm contractors can assess the home with infrared cameras and moisture detection devices, check the roof, and check the foundations, etc.
Finally, if there is any damage to your property, it is crucial to have your insurance company dispatch an adjuster to assess and confirm the extent of the damage. This step is vital not only for your peace of mind but also for ensuring that you receive the appropriate compensation for repairs. While it is true that not all contractors are dishonest, it is important to remain vigilant, as some may take advantage of the situation. To protect yourself, ensure that the contractors you choose to work with are in alignment with your insurance company throughout the claims process. This alignment can help facilitate smoother communication and expedite the claim, ultimately leading to a more favorable outcome for you.
Once the contractor and insurance company are collaborating to work out the details of your claim, you can take a moment to relax and breathe a sigh of relief. However, it is essential to remember that you should not become complacent. Before you proceed with any major projects or repairs, ensure that everything is well-prepared and organized.

This includes gathering all necessary documentation, understanding the scope of work needed, and having a clear timeline in mind. Tasks such as tarping roofs to prevent further water damage, implementing mitigation strategies to address any immediate hazards, and removing fallen trees or debris are particularly time-sensitive. Therefore, it is important to engage a trusted contractor who has a proven track record of making quick and informed decisions without the need to wait for prolonged insurance approvals. This proactive approach can significantly mitigate further damage and help restore your property more efficiently.
Hey, did you know Lawrenceville used to be called Maidenhead? They changed the name to Lawrenceville to honor James Lawrence, a naval war hero from the War of 1812.
